THE NEW TESTAMENT (NT)

is the principal book of scripture for Christians, covering 27 volumes. The core of the NT are the four Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John that each relate the life and deeds of Jesus. The other key elements are the Book of Acts of the Apostles which covers the early development of the Christian Church; the Letters attributed to St. Paul that offer a broad range of guidelines in the interpretation of faith in Jesus Christ; additional apostolic letters, and the apocalyptic Book of Revelations.

The 'New Testament' is sometimes called "The New Covenant,' because Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of the promise of the Old Testament (or Jewish Bible). God sent his Son Jesus Christ, to spread the 'good news' (the meaning of 'gospel' or 'goodspell,' euangelion in Greek) of a New Kingdom of God, and to seal the Jewish covenant with YAHWEH with Jesus' sacrifice of eternal redemption on the Cross.
