When not bogged down with writing a dissertation or grading papers, Zachariah
likes to play basketball or walk on the beach near his Venice, CA home.
His dissertation research in the Department of Political Science at UCLA is
concerned with the relationship between contemporary rebel movements and the
populations under their control.
Zachariah was born in Detroit to parents of South Indian Dravidian heritage, and
has lived at various times in Bangalore, Indianapolis, Boston, Dar es Salaam,
New York, Lagos, Los Angeles and Kampala.
He has a BA from Tufts University in International Relations and African Studies
and an MA from Columbia University in Political Science. His writing on
politics and culture in America and Africa has appeared in
Africana.com and Inthefray.com.
