My name is Noreen. I study at Chicago Medical School in North Chicago. I have
always been interested in medicine, it was just something that I really
connected with and understood and felt very confident in.
I am twenty four years old. I am a native of Southern California; my parents are
originally from Pakistan. I am Muslim.
In medical school you really don't get that kind of atmosphere where people are
talking about inter-cultural, interfaith, or even world issues. Everyone is
just kind of cooped up in their little book environment, studying constantly.
This [interfaith communication] is something I really miss, because I had it in
college.
Of my roommates, two were Jewish, one was Catholic and one was Christian. We had
a lot of open communication with my roommates, they would attend services
during Ramadan, and I would attend some of the Hillel meetings at the rabbi's
house and attend other events, so I learned a lot more about their culture and
religion, as they did my own.
