Adam Morrison is a renowned composer of ethnic music and musical scores inspired by the music traditions of Africa and the Middle East.
Composer Adam Morrison

Morrison was born in New York City in 1960. He earned a B.A. in piano and composition at the Rubin Academy in Jerusalem, Israel and went on to receive an M.F.A. in World music studies from the California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles, CA. Morrison also studied privately with distinguished musicians including David Bar-Illan, Joanne Brackeen, Keith Jarrett, and Charlie Haden.

From 1982 to 1987, Morrison was a founding member of the award winning jazz-rock group "Tslil Shacken" which performed and recorded throughout Israel. He was also active as a member of several small chamber music ensembles.

Upon his return to the United States in 1988, Morrison formed "Big World Hotel", a six -piece world music ensemble that toured the east coast and performed for the Dalai Lama.

It is during this time that Morrison began to compose scores, first for the National Shakespeare Company and then for numerous PBS productions, independent films and Ballet scores, including the 1997 Pantheon Studios production Café de Nuit.

From 1995 to 1997, Morrison was an original member of the "Reggae Passover" ensemble, comprising people from eight different nations.

Morrison currently lives in New York City, where he is the musical director and pianist for "Colors of Ritual" - a group of twelve musicians from Brazil, Morroco, Israel, Palestine, France, Algeria and the US. He also performs regularly with the Japanese pop group "Dvash" and a Hasidic rock group "Diaspora."
